The Inspiration
As part of the £6 million Moredon Hub development, the ambition was to deliver a modern, multi-use facility that would serve both the local community and council operations. Within this flagship project, the commercial kitchen played a critical enabling role, required to function efficiently, safely, and reliably within a complex building that combined public-facing sports facilities with administrative office space.
The challenge was to deliver a kitchen solution that aligned seamlessly with the wider development , operationally, technically, and programmatically, while maintaining cost certainty and meeting the expectations placed on a high-profile civic project.
Our Approach
Our approach combined early-stage feasibility, close stakeholder collaboration, and disciplined technical coordination. From the outset, we undertook detailed site surveys to understand spatial constraints, service routes, adjacencies, and operational workflows. This evidence-based understanding informed planning feasibility studies, ensuring the kitchen layout, servicing strategy, and operational flow were optimised before progressing into detailed design.
Building on this foundation, we developed a fully coordinated and accountable design for the commercial kitchen, integrating mechanical, electrical, and builders’ work requirements into a clear, buildable solution. A detailed specification was agreed with all stakeholders at an early stage, providing transparency, cost certainty, and alignment across the wider project team prior to construction.
Delivery was carefully phased around the Council’s operational requirements for the centre, which remained in active use throughout by a range of community and specialist user groups, including SEND activities, sports clubs, and football programmes. Working closely with Council officers and centre managers, we sequenced works to avoid disruption to scheduled activities, adapting access, timings, and methodologies to suit the needs of users and staff.
As works progressed on site, our project team maintained calm, close control of quality, safety, and programme. Robust health and safety documentation was issued and managed throughout, with safety prioritised at every stage of delivery. Coordination across trades ensured bespoke steelwork worktops, kitchen installations, plumbing, and electrical services were integrated seamlessly within the wider build sequence.
On completion, a fully coordinated handover package was provided, including O&M manuals, certification, commissioning records, and as-installed information, ensuring the Council was equipped to operate and maintain the facility with confidence from day one. Despite the operational complexity of the live environment, the kitchen was delivered without disruption, delay, or compromise, demonstrating Mondes’ ability to manage highly complex public-sector projects with assurance, clarity, and ease.
The Outcome
The project delivered a fully integrated, high-quality commercial kitchen that now operates as an integral part of the Moredon Hub, supporting daily activity within a flagship sports and civic facility. The solution exceeds all operational requirements, aligns seamlessly with the technical and architectural intent of the wider development, and provides a reliable, efficient environment for long-term use. Delivered on time and within budget, the works attracted positive feedback from council representatives and the local Mayor, reflecting the quality of execution, professionalism, and collaborative approach maintained throughout.
Crucially, early feasibility and disciplined coordination translated complexity into certainty, reducing delivery risk and enabling informed decisions at every stage. The result is a dependable, future-ready asset that contributes to the success, resilience, and reputation of a major community development as well as the local community.
Our Lasting Impact
This project exemplifies Mondes’ ability to deliver complex specialist infrastructure within major civic developments, translating early feasibility and coordinated design into seamless, high-quality delivery on site. By managing complexity with clarity and control, the commercial kitchen now plays a quiet but essential role in the everyday success of the Moredon Hub, supporting community activity, operational efficiency, and long-term resilience. Above all, the project reinforces Mondes’ position as a trusted delivery partner for public-sector environments where certainty, quality, and confidence matter most.
